About the Deliberations Programme

The “Deliberations” radio series arose from the realisation that a lot of work by CSOs, other development actors, think-tanks, etc., involve the use of workshops, meetings, and the like, where intense deliberations are carried out for the purposes of improving engagements with communities and for communicating programme ideals and results. However, the reach of such events is often limited to those able to attend them and/or receive written reports on them. Also, these events usually get minimal coverage through mainstream/traditional media and hence the issues raised in them are rarely effectively promoted. “Deliberations” thus aims to widen the reach and accessibility of the messages shared in such organised forums, to more audiences and programme targets at the local and international levels. To this end, the Radio Baraza (RB) of on which Deliberations broadcasts complements the communication departments of partner organisations by enhancing the delivery of the developed messages to the general public, project targets and beneficiaries in sustained ways.

KTM is a people driven movement that pursues the realisation of a just nation through agitating for human rights, sovereignty and protection of public resources. In line with this vision, KTM focuses on such issues as inclusivity, the pursuit of credible electoral outcomes, the debt crisis, etc. KTM is house by Inuka Kenya Nisi.

THE INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY (TISA)

TISA was launched in Nairobi in 2008 to promote citizen empowerment and government accountability, at a moment of promise, when Kenya was charting a path to constitutional reform. Since the adoption of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, TISA has sought to advance the Constitution’s central tenet: transforming the way power in Kenya is distributed and managed, chiefly through the devolution of government power from the national to the county (sub- national) level.

DEVELOPMENT THROUGH MEDIA (DTM)

Development Through Media (DTM) aims to be a strategic media and advocacy partner in programmatic interventions by CSOs and other players in the overall development sector across all development themes.

DTM is among the first non-profit and development oriented media organisation to set up in Kenya in 1996 as a local idea in response to challenges that continue to stand in the way of developing independent and all-inclusive media and broadcast models/institutions for advocacy work here in Kenya and in the region. DTM envisions a well-informed and knowledgeable society that is inclusive and just. Its mission is to use the media to promote among other things, socioeconomic, accountability, constitutionalism, electoral justice and political empowerment of all citizens, including women, youth and other marginalised groups.

DTM has utilised the experiences gained and skills developed over the years working in the CSO sector, to create the Radio Baraza strategy (RB) as an innovated content production, promotion and broadcast model for CSOs and overall development sector advocacy. RB combines production and promotional strategies with a fully-fledged broadcast component that currently operate online and dedicated exclusively to the promotion of development-oriented information. RB has several features, which include Live Radio and other semi-independent sections each with a “Listen on Demand (LoD)” feature. The Live Radio and LoDs are accessible to listeners across Kenya and around the world on a 24/7 basis.
