Having more women in high echelons of power can lead to innovative ways of solving economic and social problems.
Talking to RBNews, Siaya residents indicated that in the upcoming elections, they would want to vote people who have a clear agenda and more humane.
“Women have compassion, feel others’ pain and can hence manage leadership offices with integrity. They are also good managers and that is why many are able to ensure that their houses are well run” Pauline Anna, a mother of four says.
Beatrice Kadzo says that today, women are capable of doing hard jobs like “MJENGO”. Also, some have gone to school and studied subjects previously preserved for men, like Engineering and Law. Therefore, they (women) can withstand the pressure of such huge roles unlike before.
“Such a chance should be given to a lady. This is because today, women don’t do “easy” jobs. They study a lot and are tough.”
“Given that culture is dynamic, change continues to happen, for example, women can now own property and hence wield more power”, Mr. Stephen Achoki suggests.
“Stronger, tough and educated women make good leaders. We have them here in Siaya, and given a chance, they can govern us very well.” continues Mr. Achoki.
Lynette Ohowa agrees with the argument that Siaya constituents are yearning for more women leaders, but they are often challenged in several ways.
“Women have limited resources and often face threats and intimidation. However, with the evidently changing culture, Siaya can produce great women leaders ”
