Voters in Nairobi County are now caught in guessing in about if the upcoming elections will be peaceful or not. Unrest and insecurity are situations that always come up during elections.
With political temperatures heating up and with the clock ticking to the due date, Nairobi residents hope for nothing else but peaceful elections.
“We are unsure about the eventual outcome because all the aspirants seem to believe that they will win. When Raila wins, there will be war and when Ruto wins there may be war as well.” Said Nasimiyu a resident in Kibera.
A number of voters think that the election will be peaceful because the whole world has its eyes on Kenya. The ICC (international criminal Court) is watching since Kenya has had a case there before.
A resident in Ngara who only identified himself as Kabuda is optimistic that this will be the most peaceful election since Kenyans learnt the hard way in 2007 and there is no way they will want to go that direction again.
“Whatever the outcome, we will deal with it maturely, “he concluded.
Ahmed Abbas runs an auto shop downtown and he thinks the elections will be peaceful as people will be busy trying to put food on the table given the high living. Only a few places might experience threats when goons take advantage of situations where security may be lacking.
“There may be some cases of violence because all the main presidential aspirants want to lead. And one of them is going to try for the very last time. I just feel it won’t be peaceful. And we are afraid here in Kibera because in such cases, we are the ones affected the most by people taking advantage of the political riots. They loot shops and rob people. I just hope it will be peaceful. Right now we are living in fear,” said Terry a resident of Kibera.
What about you, what do you think of this year’s election? Will it be peaceful
